GRADING
The main commercial 'appearance' grades of timber from Russia are available in three distinct quality divisions. These grades are assigned Roman Numerals going from I ('FAS') - which denotes the best looking timber, down to III ('1 Common') which denotes worst looking timber.
The highest commercially available 'appearance' grade of Siberian Larch is known as 'EXTRA' (FAS). The difference between the 'EXTRA'(FAS) and 'Prime' 'Select&btr.' grades is that the latter also includes III ('three) grade in the mix, therefore 'Prime' ('Select&btr.') consists of a mix of grades I - III. The actual percentage of each quality division in any one shipment or pack of both 'EXTRA'(FAS) and 'Prime' (Select&btr.) grades correlates with the natural recovery of the timber while sawing.
Siberwood stocks three grades of Siberian Larch: 'EXTRA' (FAS), 'Prime' (Select&btr.) and '' I - III (1 Common) grades. 'Prime' (Select&btr.) is the grade that is produced in the highest volumes by Russian Sawmills and it is a grade that is well suited to exterior cladding applications.
